Why did God use the plurals US and OUR in Genesis 1:26?

And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
I believe it is referring to the unity of  The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one divine Being. We refer to the three as the Godhead or Trinity.
We are made in HIS image and we are like little Trinities.
Jesus said the greatest commandment is to LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.
Mark 12:30
The Heart is our spirit compared to Holy Spirit.
The Soul is our breath, body compared with Jesus (body), Son.
The Mind is our thoughts, intelligence compared with God the Father.
Strength is putting them all together ~ God.
We are made in God’s image!
God does not want us to love Him with just “parts” of our being, but rather, with ALL our being!

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all are God in different forms.

An analogy I like to use (steam ~ a gas, water vapor, a cloud), (ice ~ a solid, form) and (water ~ a liquid), yet they are all H2O.

The Father~Cloud
Exodus 13:21
The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

Matthew 17:1 Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. 2 And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. 4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”

Son~Body

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.
Then go to John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
So we have the Word which is God, then the Word becomes flesh. The flesh is Jesus, the flesh is God, Jesus Is God in the flesh.

The Holy Spirit~“Living Water”
John 7: 37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

The Trinity Explained (with Reason)
I thought this was an interesting way to explain the Trinity.

The way my mind can understand God as the Father, God as the Son, and God as the Holy Spirit yet He is one Almighty God, I envision the Father as a Great Light (mind, intelligence) and within The Light is Jesus in a bodily form (body, living soul) and I see the Holy Spirit as the very Heart of God (heart~ character).
We too have a mind, soul, and heart yet we are one. We are made in the image of God.

Matthew 22:34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’

Our heart, soul, and mind make up our being, just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit make up the very being of Our Almighty God.

Jesus said in Matt. 28:19, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the makeup of God’s very being. Just like each of us are made up of heart, mind, soul, It is our very being. We are made in the very image of God and are like little trinities yet we are ONE.

      Genesis 1:26
And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

      Here is a Comparison~ Man’s image to God’s image
The Heart of man is our spirit compared to the Holy Spirit.
The Soul of man is our breath, body compared with Jesus (body), Son.
The Mind of man is our thoughts, intelligence compared with God the Father.
The Strength of man is putting them all to together, the whole man compared to God.
We are made in God’s very image!

Let me add this. The way that I can understand God as the Father, God as the Son, and God as the Holy Spirit – yet know that He is one Almighty God – is by envisioning the Father as a Great Light (mind, intelligence). Within The Light is Jesus, in a bodily form (body, living soul), and I see the Holy Spirit as the very Heart of God (heart~ character).
We too have a mind, soul, and heart yet we are one. We are made in the image of God. Remember with God nothing is impossible. God is everywhere. God can be in more than one place at a time. God created time. The human mind cannot mentally understand by trying to rationalize. We just know that God created all things and he can do all things. God humbled himself in the form of a man to make a way for our salvation. Jesus is like the Ark with only one door in. One can only come in through Jesus to reach the Father. We must be cleansed with the blood of Christ and the way is through faith in HIM.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Jesus said In Matthew 11:27 “All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
